Selena Gomez Not Allowed Into Russia Because She Supports Gay Rights

 

While most of Europe welcomed Selena with open arms when she traveled the continent on her ‘Stars Dance’ tour, Russia was not so eager to greet her. Sel was set to perform two concerts in the former communist nation in September, but Russian officials have turned down her visa request, apparently because Selena supports gay rights. How shocking!

Selena Gomez may be America’s sweetheart, but Russia is not too fond of the 21-year-old actress and singer. Organizers for the two concerts Selena had scheduled at St. Petersburg’s Ice Palace on Sept. 23 and Moscow’s Olimiisky stadium on Sept. 25 told The Moscow Times that Russian officials denied Sel’s request to enter the country under its new anti-gay law. Poor Selena had to cancel both of the tour stops and she is no longer going to Russia, her rep tells E! News. U.S. gay rights activist John Becker, who started a Change.org petition asking Selena to speak out for gay Russians when she performed in the country, tells E! News in a statement:

This cancellation of Selena Gomez’s visa shows that the Russian government is sensitive and on the defence, and shows that the pressure from people all around the world and the backlash against these laws is strong. They’re afraid to have someone like Selena Gomez come in and potentially use her platform to advance LGBT rights.

Wow! It’s hard to believe Russia could be afraid of innocent little Selena — especially when she is only trying to send a positive message to the world. It’s so sad that her Russian fans won’t get to see her because of this.

Russian Government Threatens To Sue Madonna & Lady Gaga For Pro-Gay Displays

Selena isn’t the first gay rights supporter to face a backlash from Russia. After Madonna and Lady Gaga showed some love for Russia’s gay community during 2012 concerts in the country, the Russian government threatened to sue the entertainers for performing without proper documentation. And some Russian activists actually did sue Madonna, claiming she was promoting homosexuality to children, according to E! News. We can’t believe it!

It’s official! After weeks of rumours that the two singers were dating, fans’ wishes came true when Ariana and Nathan announced their relationship via Twitter on Sept. 24. We couldn’t be happier for them!

Ever since they co-starred in the sensual music video for their song, “Almost Is Never Enough,” we’ve been rooting for Ariana Grande and The Wanted‘s Nathan Sykes to continue their chemistry off-screen. Nathan, 20, wants the world to know how smitten he is with Ariana, also 20.
He tweeted, “So, I guess it’s obvious now … 🙈 thanks to everyone who is being so lovely. I’m so happy ❤️ #butweareterrified #pleasedontkillme #orariana”
So sweet! Ariana followed up by tweeting, “we hesitated saying anything as people can be a bit insensitive but thank u ♡ we value all of your happiness, thank you for valuing ours 💕:)”
Ariana and Nathan were obviously nervous about taking the plunge, so it’s terrific that everyone is being supportive of their romance so far. Nathan’s bandmate, Max George, even tweeted his approval, saying, “@NathanTheWanted @ArianaGrande very happy for you little brother. She’s a sweetheart :)”
We’re not at all surprised these two finally got together. Ariana has never been shy about showing how much she admires Nathan, and she even gushed about his singing on their duet, ”Almost Is Never Enough,” in an interview with MTV News:

Nathan just sang the hell out of it. I thought it was Brian McKnight. I’m like, ‘Who is this?’ Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t know he had that in him. I saw him perform live on one of the radio shows that we were at together, and I was like, ‘Damn, he can sing.’ This song I think will pleasantly surprise a lot of people. It’s very beautiful and very emotional and I love, love, love what Nathan did to it. It was a great, great, great surprise.

We hope this adorable new couple will collaborate on more songs in the future because they obviously make beautiful music together!

Ariana Grande Puts Justin Bieber Dating Rumors To Rest

Justin Bieber fans freaked when Ariana posted an Instagram picture of him kissing her on the cheek while they were hanging out. Many passionate Jelana fans were less than thrilled about seeing Justin cozying up to Ariana and they sent angry messages to her on Twitter, leading her to tweet, “Everyone, girls are allowed to be friends with guys. I’m a lady. Chill out.”
Now that Ariana is dating Nathan, it looks like Jelena fans can relax. We think Ariana and Nathan make a better match anyway!

Selena Gomez Wants To Design ‘Edgier’ Clothes

In an interview with the radio station Kiss FM in London, Selena discussed her clothing line and revealed that she hopes to do more in the fashion industry in the near future.
“I have my clothing line that’s been going on in the states. It’s been going really well and it’s probably one of the best things I’ve been part of,” she said in the interview. “I want to do something a bit more edgier.”
We love how Selena is becoming such a style icon. She definitely knows what to wear and when.

'You Ripped My Heart Out': Demi Lovato Reduced To Tears As The X Factor USA Returns

Demi Lovato is excited about the talent on this third season of "X Factor."
On audition in particular moved Demi to tears during the September 11, 2013 season premiere. Lillie McCloud, a 54-year-old grandmother, performed a soulful rendition of CeCe Winans' "Alabaster Box" that earned a standing ovation from the judges.
Kelly Rowland, who had also been wiping away tears during the performance, commented, "the fact that you sang to people a song they didn't know, and y'all could feel that. Every single part of this room, you touched with your voice."
Simon Cowell remarked, "you absolutely nailed it. It really was that good."
Demi remarked, "oh my God. Ripped my heart out of my chest. And I feel like I'm listening to Whitney [Houston]. And I feel like maybe your time wasn't supposed to happen until now."
Paulina Rubo asked the judges to vote, but felt that it wasn't necessary since it was quite obvious that Lillie had nailed her audition.
All four judges voted Lillie through to the next round.
After the show, Demi tweeted, "Yayyy Lillie McCloud!!!!!!"
